Funk Volume’s Damien Ritter Previews Seventh Annual “Don’t Funk Up Our Beats” Contest
Funk Volume has created and participated in numerous contests in the past and now, the independent label is set to host another one.
“This year we’ve partnered up with HipHopDX to make it a huge deal. It’ll be the biggest one yet,” he announced via a segment of today’s (June 16) DX Daily. “When we launch it, all artists have to do is come to HipHopDX, download a beat, record a video themselves–basically a music video–post it back up to HipHopDX for the contest. There’ll be voting. It’s going to be cool.”
Ritter also encourages everyone to enter the contest, explained some of the rules and regulations and says “Don’t Funk Up Our Beats” is a great opportunity to gain exposure in the Hip Hop world.
“Everyone can participate. You got one fan or thousands of fans. We encourage everyone to participate,” he said when asked about contest. “This year, you’re going to have to keep your video to under two minutes. Sometimes people ask to alter the beat a little bit. They can definitely put drops in the beat or speed it up. They can’t add any sounds but pretty much we want them to get creative as possible with the videos and express themselves and build their exposure and fan base through the contest.”
The winner of the longest running Internet rap contest will get to tour with artists from Funk Volume, opening numerous shows. Ritter made sure to note that it won’t be for the whole future tour, however. The winner also receives $2,500. Runner-up receives $1,000 and the opportunity to open one show during the forthcoming tour. Third place finisher receives $500.
