The First Artist To Ever Hit 1 Billion Plays On Spotify with Two Different Songs Is…
Ed Sheeran just became the first artist in music history to have more than one song hit one billion streams on Spotify!
The singer/songwriter’s massive 2014 hit “Thinking Out Loud” has ficially racked up a billion plays and counting, joining his more recent 2017 smash “Shape You.” While the latter clocked in millions plays in its first day, the newest song in the billion play club has steadily been racking up streams for years.
“Thinking Out Loud” becomes the 6th track to reach 1 billion plays. Sheeran joins the likes Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers, who both hit the 1 billion mark with “Sorry” and “Closer,” respectively. Both acts are close to doing it again, with the Biebs’ “Love Yourself” and The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down.”
This is quite a milestone accomplishment for Sheeran, especially in our music stream-driven world and considering Spotify is the world’s most popular streaming platform.
We have a feeling this won’t be the last time Ed Sheeran hits a billion plays!
