California’s late night bar bill just got one step closer to being passed. It’s already been approved by the State Senate and next up it needs to pass arguments by the State Assembly. With the introduction of California Senate Bill 905, a pilot program would go into effect, allowing bars in Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Long Beach, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento to push back last call from 2 am to 4 am. Not a requirement, just an option. Democratic California State Senator Scott Wiener is all for it, and he’s the man behind California Senate Bill 905. There are arguments on...
Creamfields is making 2018 one of its best years yet with some brand new stage additions! First up, the event announced its groundbreaking, 360-degree SILO arena. Now, the iconic dance music event introduces another exciting new structure known as the Generator. Much like SILO arena, Generator will be built with a multi-tiered concept in mind, ideal for filling to the brim with music lovers and art spectacles. There will be no shortage of LED walls, lights, lasers and pyro, which are expected to be installed throughout the entire structure. An overall industrial feel and rave-like atmosphere are what make the new Generator structure...
According to a report provided to Edmonton city officials, attendees of ‘raves’ are 30 times more likely to be hospitalized than those who attend other concerts and has recommended that the city impose an “immediate moratorium” on the all-night dance. The two main concerns highlighted by the report are drugs usage and sexual assault at raves in the Western Canadian city. The report notes that in 2017, 84 people were treated for drug-related illnesses and a further 26 were taken to emergency rooms at six raves taking place on city-owned facilities. In contrast, 14 ‘concerts’ at large scale venues...
It definitely looks like Calvin Harris is going all-in on the house music. His smash hit with Dua Lipa, “One Kiss,” is certainly the housiest record he’s put out in a few years now, and he’s stayed true to that by recruiting some of the biggest names in house for remix duties. Now, he’s added another in Oliver Heldens who delivers a bouncy deep house remix with a rumbling, smoky drop that’s just begging to set dance-floors alight across the world. Though it exists in a pack of two other house remixes, it certainly has a more ‘mainstream’ identity of its own that separates itself...
Avicii‘s absence can still be felt at music festivals across the world, especially when they hit close to home. Most recently, a minute of silence was held for the the late producer at Summerburst in Gothenburg, Sweden — and the memorial was just as bittersweet as ever. It was Alan Walker who ended his set on this sentimental note, as he played out his remix of “Without You” and held the moment of silence. Photos of Avicii flashed over the big screens as the crowd softly chanted his name. A few fireworks and some applause later, and the party was back...
San Holo has been pretty vocal about his album writing process on social media for the last few weeks now. In fact, he’s even set up a brand new website, separate from his regular website, just to track the process while his YouTube and social media have been awash with album related teasers as well. On Thursday night, San’s record label bitbird hosted a small event in The Netherlands which proved to be the perfect place for San to debut yet another forthcoming album ID. Though we’re only given a small snippet of the drop, we can already hear San’s heavy guitar...
It’s unfortunate, but mass shootings like the ones at Pulse Nightclub or Route 91 Harvest Festival have become a part of our lives that we must now always be wary of. Any mass gathering of people could be a potential target, especially music festivals where tens of thousands of people could be coming together. This year at EDC Las Vegas went down peacefully, thankfully, but there could always be those who wish to do harm. One man, Nikolas Merlin, posted in the unofficial EDC Las Vegas Facebook group, promising to “beat the high score” of last year’s Las Vegas...
In an unfortunate accident, a man, Tyler Schripsema, 23 of Modesto, has been reported dead after the annual Lightning in a Bottle music festival in Monterey, California. Details surrounding the death are scarce, with local news affiliate KSBY 6 reporting it as a “swimming-related accident.” Preliminary autopsy reports indicate that the man died from an injury to his spinal column. “I don’t know if he fell and hit his head,” said his mother, Lisa Schripsema. “It was such a freak accident.” Schripsema was reportedly by himself in the water when he was somehow injured, and immediately went into cardiac arrest, his...
Following allegations of rape, rapper RiFF RAFF’s Australian and New Zealand tour has been effectively cancelled. The accusations against RiFF RAFF were originally levied by Eliza Stafford on Facebook, who recounts an event in 2013 during which she was allegedly coerced, drugged, and raped by the rapper. Stafford claims she was offered vodka which turned out to be codeine, after which she blacked out. Stafford writes, “I woke up as Riff raff was pulling out of me and getting in to the shower. I crawled – truly, on all fours -out of the hotel room and managed to get...
‘Trending’ posts were introduced to Facebook in 2014 as a way to expose readers to topics that they might not normally see on their usual feed. However, the feature was ultimately only available to five countries on the platform and accounted for less than 1.5% of clicks to news publishers on average, reveals Facebook in a blog post. The effectiveness of the features was cut at the knees and rendered even less useful in 2016 during the presidential election when dozens of fake news websites were attempting to influence the outcome of the Clinton v. Trump race. Effective next week,...
