People are outraged after the murder of George Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old black man who was brutally killed by the police. Protests have taken place across the country for the last several days as the world seeks justice against the senseless and racist crimes committed against people of color every single day. George Floyd is just one name on a vast list of people who have lost their lives to racism and police brutality this year.

Derek Chauvin, the man who kneeled on his neck and cut off Floyd’s breathing, has been charged with third-degree murder and he is currently in police custody. His bond has been set for $500,000 and, according to the New York Post, he has been moved to a maximum-security prison. He is currently now in the highest-custody level in the Minnesota region, being transported to Minnesota Correctional Facility – Oak Park Heights.

“Oak Park Heights is the highest custody level in the Minnesota DOC system. However, the majority of inmates housed here are maximum and close custody, as some of the inmates need a higher level of security,” says the DOC.

Derek Chauvin was fired alongside three other officers in connection to the murder of George Floyd. The three others have not been charged yet.
