The Verzuz battles that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have been organizing have brought excitement to music fans during an otherwise dreary time. We’ve seen legends in the game to go head-to-head to see who’s catalog in stronger but more than anything else, it’s been a celebration of artists who’ve blessed us with countless records over the years.

During a recent interview with NORE and DJ EFN on Drink Champs, DMX was asked about who he’d want to go up against song-for-song. Though there are many of his contemporaries that would be fitting for the duel, X is clearly aiming for the top. “Jay,” X replied after NORE and DJ EFN asked who he’d think a fitting opponent would be. Though both NORE and EFN were stunned at the response, asking X if he was talking about the Jay, X quipped, “Yeah, who you think?”

“That would be battle number three,” X added.”

Jay and X have a history together stemming from the 90s. The two once battled in what is now recounted as a hip-hop urban legend. Some have stated Jay one while others suggest that DMX had the edge. Eventually, they would settle the score on the Hard Knock Life Tour in 1999 which later surfaced through the Backstage documentary.

All things considered, could DMX’s catalog stand against Jay’s in a Verzuz battle? Sound off in the comments.
