Roddy Ricch owes a lot to Nipsey Hussle. Early in the rising star’s career, the Los Angeles rapper was the only person to throw him a co-sign, inviting him onto “Racks In The Middle” and contributing to the star’s massive growth. Fast forward one year and Roddy Ricch is a Grammy winner and has the longest-running #1 single of the year with “The Box.”
Nipsey Hussle saw something in Roddy Ricch that nobody else did. He recognized his star potential and supported the Compton rapper until the very end. When he passed, Ricch got a face tattoo in his honor before being announced as a Grammy winner by his side. This week, he finally received his prize in the mail and it was a bittersweet moment for him.
“Thank u @nipseyhussle,” wrote Roddy Ricch on social media, showing off his brand new Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance on “Racks In The Middle.”
Everybody has been getting their awards in the mail this month, including Cardi B’s prize for Invasion Of Privacy.
Roddy Ricch is one of the few who took the opportunity to show off the hardware, proving that hard work pays off eventually.
Congratulations to Roddy on his win. The Marathon Continues.
Joaquin Phoenix’s "Joker" Wins Golden Globe For Best Actor
Watch Joaquin Phoenix’s speech.
Sunday night, Joaquin Phoenix helped the Joker film win one of the night’s top prizes at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.
In total, the film was nominated for four trophies: Best Actor, Best Director (Todd Phillips), Best Score (Hildur Gudnadóttir), and Best Picture. While Gudnadóttir claimed the win in her respective category, Joaquin also walked away with a strong win for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Todd Phillips film. In the origin flick, Phoenix effectively takes on the role of hopeful comedian Arthur Fleck who eventually transforms into the recognized villain.
It all makes for one interesting conclusion given the fact that Phillips recently revealed that Phoneix never actually agreed to the now-iconic role that he portrayed.
“It was a pursuit to get him because initially, it feels like, ‘ugh, comic book movie.’ Just the idea of it is something he wasn’t so keen on pursuing, and even when I would explain to him it’s not that, it kind of says that, but really we’re doing this other thing, there was a little resistance,” he told IndieWire. “But the more I got to know him, the more I hung out with him, and we spent a lot of time talking about what the movie will look and feel like, and then one day he magically showed up. He never said yes. He just one day showed up to a wardrobe fitting. … It was an incredible partnership.:
Awkwafina Wins First Golden Globe For Best Actress In A Musical/Comedy
Awkwafina claims a big win.
Sunday night, Awkwafina made history at the 2020 Golden Globes as the first woman of Asian descent to win a trophy for best lead actress in a movie comedy/musical.
The win came for her role in the Lulu Wang-directed The Farewell in which the rapper-turned-actress plays the role of an American woman named Billi who suffers through a terminal diagnosis while her family keeps it away from her grandmother back in China.
“I’d like to dedicate this to my dad, Wally. I told you I’d get a job, Dad,” she said before concluding in her speech. “To my grandma, my best friend, the woman who raised me. And to my mother, Tia, who I always hope is watching from somewhere above, and I hope that she’s watching now.”
Last year, Awkwafina’s Crazy Rich Asians co-star Constance Wu was also nominated for the same category, losing out to Oli Colman in The Favourite. She is joined by the likes of Sandra Oh, who claimed a historic win to take home the Golden Globe for lead actress in a TV drama last year for her work on Killing Eve, making her the first actor of Asian descent to win more than one Golden Globe.
