It’s been decades since we last saw Bill and Ted cavorting throughout the time-space continuum, with Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey having landed in 1991. Yet that’s about to change with the trilogy’s upcoming chapter Bill & Ted Face The Music, which finds Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprising their roles for another outlandish adventure. Today marks the arrival of the film’s first official teaser trailer, which provides a glimpse at the general plotline to come.

Having failed to write the song that will unite the world, Bill and Ted decide to take a shortcut and fast-forward into the future, where they can essentially steal the song from themselves. The moral conundrum associated with plagiarizing from one’s self is briefly discussed, but let’s be honest, neither Bill nor Ted carry much weight in the philosophy department. Unfortunately, things don’t seem like they’re going to go as planned, as both Bill and Ted’s future selves don’t exactly seem like the charitable type. Though as we’ve seen before, the mindless charms of two affable slackers can hold unexpected power.
