Carl Cox Reveals Plans To Bring Back One Of Dance Music's Most Legendary Venues
Space reigned as one of the top clubs in Ibizia for years. Space owed much of its success to Carl Cox, who played as its resident up to its close in 2016. The venue itself turned into Hï Ibiza, but the memory of Space lives on. However, Space may not remain a memory forever. Cox has plans to bring it back to life.
Cox revealed his plans to bring Space back to Ibiza in an interview with BE-AT.TV. The outlet asked him if he planned on being a resident at a new club, but Cox rejected the idea. He then divulged a plan to bring Space back for the opening and closing weekends of the island summer season, but it didn’t pan out. Then, the kicker: he and Space’s previous management were looking for a new area for the return of Space. He detailed the idea in the below quote:
No. I’m never going to do another residency on the Island, there is no club for me to play like that – Space was definitely the place for me. We have the idea of bringing Space back next year for maybe an opening and closing, but apart from that we are actually looking for a new area to build a new Space somewhere on the island.
Cox followed up the news with plans for the new Space. He said the new Space would be in a quiet location, not next to a club like the one at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. He also shot down the idea of repurposing clubs like Amnesia and Pacha to be the new Space. For timing, Cox said the new Space wouldn’t likely arrive in 2019, but did tease for a potential 2020 return. His full thoughts below:
Yes, it’s going to happen – there’s no doubt about that! I’m going to bring it back in the near or the distant future. I mean, I’ve lost my home and I need to build a new one. There’s no point in me going to Pacha to have the Space ideal. There’s no point in me going to Amnesia and just put the Space logo on that club. There’s no point in me going to Privilege and doing the same thing.
There is no point, because Space was built as an independent club in Playa d’en Bossa. Playa d’en Bossa only became Playa d’en Bossa because of Space. The new Space doesn’t actually have to be on Playa d’en Bossa. Obviously we need some place where it’s a little bit quiet. There is no way I’m going to build a Space nightclub next to Ushuaia or anything. We will go to a completely new place with a new concept. But the idea is to have the same people who made Space and have people who want to support me in my quest to create a new Space back on the island.
When asked about when Space would return:
No, it definitely won’t be next year. But 2020 sounds fantastic to me.
Keep your eyes peeled for the return of Space and perhaps a new residency from Carl Cox himself! We’d open up your 2020 travel plans just in case.
New Club KYŌ In Kuala Lumpur Promises An Experience Like No Other
Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur under the city’s iconic Petronas Towers and inside the plush Mandarin Oriental Hotel, club kyō has descended upon Malaysia’s capital city as a party den and catapulted its burgeoning underground music scene into one deserving of a place on the international music map. The kyō brand debuted in Singapore more than three years ago and has consistently pulled in praise from local and international DJs, artists, lifestyle tastemakers and party-goers. Its impact on the city’s swift and staggering rise was also the focus of a panel discussion at Wired Music Week last month – a sign to the international circuit that KL is city amongst other global party capitals.
Offering a boutique and bespoke environment for discerning music lovers that’s been likened to a cinematic musical playground, the 6,000 sq ft venue borrows design and conceptual elements from Japanese art and theatre. The 770-person capacity club opened in December of 2016 with an investment of £2.3 million apportioned into two multi-sensory spaces – kyō being the flagship main room and ren its smaller and sultrier second space. A large portion of the budget went into outfitting the kyō with a monstrous speaker setup, which comes courtesy of Void Acoustics, Stasys and Eastern Acoustics (see below).
“We built kyō on the ethos of escapism,” explains kyō founder and director Godwin Pereira. “It’s an underground space designed to encompass the multi-faceted expressions of personalities that fill the space, by providing a comfortable environment where guests feel free to indulge in creature comforts. It’s a boutique style of clubbing meant to feel more like home than a super club.”
Before opening, Godwin said that he believed the underground club concept would bring a new dimension to the nightlife scene in KL and set his sights on it becoming an iconic destination in its own right.
“Kuala Lumpur has the right elements for a club concept like kyō to thrive,” Pereira shares. “It has a cosmopolitan dynamism and a music scene teeming with numerous subgenres and collectives, although there is yet to be one specific venue that caters to all of these genres. Kyō KL was created to fulfill this purpose: Housing a spectrum of genres both up-and-coming and forgotten, to bring together a community of music lovers who can enjoy these in one venue.”
You could you could say its nearing mission accomplished for the club as it’s transformed Kuala Lumpur into Asia’s latest party outpost. Since closing the curtain on its first year, the subterranean space has been matched with a host of talent catering to music lovers including Seth Troxler, Pan Pot, Jeremy Olander, Dubfire, &ME, Talib Kweli. Over the next three months, a polished weekly calendar will welcome the next selection of heavyweight names to appear in KL for the first time like Len Faki, Mano Le Tough, Ben Gold, Nakadia and Cosmic Gate. kyō has also engaged in a partnership with renowned London nightclub The Egg that will see the brand head to London in October.

"Police" Shut Down Pacha Ibiza Opening Party with Epic Troll [VIDEO]
Ibiza nightclubs have been getting into trouble lately. Clubs have been raided and shut down, with Ibiza police often going toe-to-toe with club organizers and promoters. And now a huge Ibiza club has directly challenged the local policy with an effective weapon: parody.
Pacha Ibiza has caught flack for some shenanigans during the club’s 2018 reopening party. According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, per Resident Advisor, two go-go dancers impersonated police officers during the reopening night. The two impersonators escorted a group of VIP attendees from the Pacha Hotel to the club, even stopping traffic along the way. The impersonators, equipped with handcuffs and badges, took to the stage and ordered for the music to shut off. After the music briefly stopped, the party resumed, the music returned and the impersonators began dancing.
It sounds like a strange, humorous twist of events, but local police and an Ibiza citizens group were not happy. The police reported the incident to the local council, and the citizens group has called for Pacha to apologize. Pacha gave a statement revealing that the impersonators’ costumes were created by the club’s costume department; they weren’t real police uniforms. Pacha also claimed the costumes didn’t include any real badges or handcuffs.
Tekashi 6ix9ine Gets Charitable, Gives Out Diamond Earrings At Nightclub
Tekashi 6ix9ine felt the need to give back to the people over the weekend, as he recently gave away ten pairs diamond earrings at a New York City club.
A video the event, posted by DJ Akademiks, shows the "Gotti" rapper on stage, handing out small black bags to club goers with their hands outstretched, while another man hypes up the crowd.
While this is a very nice gesture from Six9ine, he's clearly not hurting for cash. Right f the tail a hoax in which he pretended for several days to have been locked up in jail, it was reported that 6ix9ine had signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with TUNES Audio; a deal that comes with a payout in the range $4.9 million. He's reported to be launching his own model headphones with the brand, with part the proceeds going to the Kids In Need Foundation, a charity that helps young children in underprivileged neighborhoods.
After signing a deal that magnitude, a couple pairs diamond earrings seems like chump change in comparison. That being said, getting passed a free pair diamond earrings would likely make anybody's night.
What do you think about Tekashi 6ix9ine's jewelry giveaway? Was it a charitable gesture, or another stunt from a rapper who's been known to garner a lot attention? Check out the video 6ix9ine's giveaway down below, and if you want to see more 6ix9ine, you can watch his brand new video for "Gotti" right here.
Chris Brown Threatens To Knock Out Valet Parking Attendant
No stranger to controversy over the years, Chris Brown had the opportunity to get himself into some more trouble last night. TMZ cameras caught up with the superstar outside a Los Angeles hotspot as he was arguing with a valet parking attendant over the service charge. While the exact numbers are not detailed, they were likely extravagant as it got to a point where Chris said the two should throw hands over it. Claiming that the worker "did him] dirty" and that he was "trying to rape him right now," Breezy was calm throughout the ordeal while still threatening violence by telling the valet, "I should knock you out but I'm not."
Although CB has been a lot more careful with what comes out his mouth in public, this was a minor slip-up as any violent threat can easily be misconstrued coming from his lips. After the two figured everything out money-wise, the Heartbreak on a Full Moon singer told the valet worker to hook him up the next time he showed up, before a quick attempt at an embrace by the attendant. Chris reminded the staffer that he will knock him out if things escalate again before heading to his car.
A few years ago, this likely would have been handled much differently on Chris' side as he relatively kept his cool, telling the staffer that he better give him a good deal the next time he sees him. While the situation was handled fairly well, it looks like he still has some work to do to avoid altercations altogether.
Lil Wayne & Birdman Have Second "Family Reunion" In Two Days
Throughout their past, Birdman & Lil Wayne have had a historic relationship as their pairing has produced countless classics. They have also had an extremely detailed falling out as Birdman has failed to pay Lil Wayne much the money owed to the rapper on top stalling the release Tha Carter V for years. Although the album has been ready for a while, it has never seen the light day because disputes between both sides, which appear to finally be dissipating. Yesterday, Birdman posted a photo the two together labeling Weezy as his "son" like the old times, generating much fanfare and hopes for the album to finally drop.
It looks as if the two are on somewhat a hang-out streak as they have now seen each other on back-to-back nights. TMZ spotted the two together last night at the Rockwell nightclub in Miami for a party that Wayne was hosting. According to the source, Birdman was Tunechi's guest for the night, bringing along a crowd to stand by their VIP table. Fabolous was also at the party, posing for a photo with the two before they all left together shortly after 4 AM.
Whether this means anything in terms an imminent Carter V release is unknown but it is unlikely that they only reminisced about their good times. While there was certainly a place for that conversation, there remains a giant elephant in the room regarding Weezy's compensation and his long-awaited album. View the photo here.
Reginae Carter & YFN Lucci Post Up At Club Together
If the last two interactions between YFN Lucci and Reginae Carter weren't enough pro that the duo are in fact a couple - their heart emoji exchanges on Instagram and drives around the city for All-Star Weekend - then this recent video the duo at the club really set things in stone.
The Shade Room shared a short clip to their feed that sees YFN at a packed venue and Reginae by his side. At first, you may wonder where Lil Wayne's 19-year-old daughter is, but she's the one in a grey hoodie and hat seemingly trying to lay low at the event.
If you're curious about Reginae's fashion choice, don't think about going after the Young Carter because she's quick to clap back at any haters. Just recently she responded to someone questioning her party outfit and before that, she posted a video going after trolls calling her baby sister "ugly."
"People so ratchet and tacky on Instagram... can't wait to find some shitt to say about how a brand new baby looks," she said. "The baby looks tasty and healthy, and so does the person that's holding her in the pic. People are so toxic on Instagram. These are people that I wouldn't have near me in my hood."
