First, it was Sacramento Kings' forward Marvin Bagley III. Now, it's NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal who has found himself in a rap beef with Portland Tail Blazers' All-NBA point guard, Damian Lillard.
Lillard, aka Dame D.O.L.L.A, recently caught Shaq's attention when discussing The Diesel's mic skills on The Joe Budden Podcast.
"I think I rap better than Shaq," Lillard said on The Joe Budden Podcast. "I've heard Shaq's stuff. I've like...I think people was like...I think he was viewed as Shaq. People was like, this [is] Shaq. It wasn't like, Shaq and Biggie. People weren't looking like this [is] a real rapper. It was like, 'That’s Shaq rapping.' So, of course, it was a big deal."
Shaq released a diss track in response to Dame's comments last week, and Dame clapped back on Tuesday with "Reign Reign Go Away," just as the Blazers are set to kickoff their training camp.
"I fill the tank up with diesel/You jealous of me and I see you/'Cause on this day originals can't fuck with the sequel/I'm new school, got new hits/Space Jam, not Blue Chips/Hang man, your shoe's shit/Dame 6, I'm too lit."
And for good measure, Dame used the photo of a teary-eyed Shaq from his appearance on "Hot Ones" for the cover art. Check out the full track below.
Damian Lillard, Marvin Bagley Release Second Diss Tracks
The NBA season may be over but it certainly doesn't feel like it the way basketball continues to dominate the sports news cycle.
For starters, the NBA Draft just took place on Thursday night and fans are still hashing out exactly what went down with all the trades. Next, we have the highly anticipated free agency period which kicks off at 6pm ET on June 30.
In the meantime, Portland Trail Blazers All Star point guard Damian Lillard and Sacramento Kings' second-year forward Marvin Bagley III are currently engaged in a rap battle. It all started on Thursday, when Bagley labeled himself the NBA's best MC and said he'd be willing to battle Dame for the NBA Rap crown during an appearance on ESPN's First Take.
Dame immediately accepted the challenge on twitter, and just hours later Bagley dropped a diss track titled, "No Debate." Naturally, Lillard responded with his own diss, using the same beat Drake rapped over on "Duppy Freestyle" in his response to Pusha T last year. Now, it's time for Round 2.
Early Friday morning Bagley released "Checkmate," while Dame dropped off "Bye Bye." Worth noting, the artwork for Lillard's second diss track is the iconic photo of him waving good-bye after hitting the series-clinching game-winner against OKC during the NBA Playoffs.
Check out both Bagley and Lillard's second diss tracks below.
Damian Lillard Drops Diss Track On Kings’ Marvin Bagley
Sacramento Kings forward Marvin Bagley dubbed himself the best rapper in the NBA during his appearance on ESPN's First Take on Thursday. Hours later, he released a diss tracked aimed at Portland Trail Blazers All Star Damian Lillard, aka Dame D.O.L.L.A.
When asked who was the best NBA MC, Bagley didn't hesitate telling ESPN's Max Kellerman, “Man, me. Me, man. I love music, I love music, so I’m gonna go with myself.” Asked if he’d be willing to battle Lillard on a future episode of First Take, Bagley added, “Yeah, for sure. Whenever, wherever. I’m with whatever. I make music, it’s something I love. So we can see.”
Dame instantly accepted the challenge on twitter, and then during last night's NBA Draft he dropped "MARVINNNNN?" using the same beat Drake rapped over on "Duppy Freestyle" in his response to Pusha T last year.
"Knee deep in the game and you barely scratching the surface, my card dressed in black whenever makin a purchase... How a king come to battle knowing the kingdom worthless?"
