Not much new music was released in the last week as singles and albums were pushed back out of respect for the protestors risking their lives to combat anti-Black racism in the middle of a pandemic. Still, a number of people have been looking for music to entertain them during this historic time. We saw some artists release new protest anthems in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and others drop their regularly-planned programming. Our staff gathered up our personal favorites from the last several weeks for the new update of the TIDAL Wave playlist.
We start off with a stretch of music that will wake you right up, including Meek Mill's new single "Otherside of America" and select sounds from Run The Jewels, Flatbush Zombies, and Freddie Gibbs. This week's update is filled with RTJ4 tracks, also complemented by a number of selections from FBZ's new album now, more than ever.
Elsewhere on the tracklist, there are offerings from Gunna, Lil Durk, Sleepy Hallow, Conway, Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked, Leon Bridges, Lil Yachty, and more.
Listen to the playlist below and check out our individual picks. Be sure to also sign up for your free trial at TIDAL here.

Flatbush Zombies Announce "Now More Than Ever"
Flatbush Zombies have officially surfaced to announce an upcoming release titled “Now More Than Ever.”
The last time we heard a full-fledged project from the Flatbush Zombies, it was 2018’s Vacation In Hell, an album that many fans thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. And while we haven’t seen much from Meechy Darko, Erick Arc Elliot, and Zombie Juice in the interim, we did see them hold it down on Beast Coast’s collaborative release Escape From New York. Now, it would appear the trifecta have once again branched out to deliver another new project, taking to Instagram to unveil the mysterious Now More Than Ever.

Giving us little other than some eerie artwork and a release date of June 5th, it’s truthfully unclear as to what Now More Than Ever actually is. To be fair, the title does sound rather appropriate for an album, and given how long it’s been since the team dropped one off, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them stage a comeback in a few weeks’ time.
As this was only just announced today, expect further clarification to follow. Not to mention a new single — look for that to surface shortly, perhaps even as soon as tomorrow. While purely speculative, it wouldn’t be surprising to see all three of the Zombies ramp up their social media presence ahead of Now More Than Ever. Whatever it winds up being, we’re happy to see the Zombies back in the mix. Sound off if you share that enthusiasm.
Meechy Darko Speaks On His Father’s Murder & Has A Request For Fans
The Flatbush Zombies rapper is unable to make it out to Miami to light a candle for his father.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Meechy Darko's father, Ryan O. Simms, had been killed by a Miami police officer. The tragic news has us all sending our thoughts and prayers to the Flatbush Zombies rapper, as well as the rest of his family and friends. Simms reportedly was involved in an altercation with the officer, who has been identified as Ricardo Castillo. Darko's dad reportedly attacked and stabbed the officer before he was shot and killed. Understandably, Meechy Darko has been remaining private as he mourns the loss of his father but a few moments ago, he had a request for all of his Florida fans to help him out with.
The Flatbush Zombies star took to Twitter to speak on the passing of his dad, writing: "5days Ago My Father was Shot & Killed On SouthBeach by Miami Police. Unfortunately I cant make my way Out there at the moment. Trying my best to hold it together & Get the funeral in order. Could someone Place a Candle on 10st and Ocean Drive for me? Would really mean a lot."
Fans have already commented back saying that they're on their way to the corner where his father was shot to pay their respects by placing a memorial candle. Keep Meechy in your prayers and, if you're in the area, help him out by placing a candle.
Meechy Darko’s Father Fatally Shot By Miami Police Department
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Meechy Darko.
Yesterday, it was reported that the father of Meechy Darko (of Flatbush Zombies) was fatally shot by Miami police officers. The incident occurred this past weekend after Meechy’s father Ryan O. Simms allegedly attacked and stabbed an officer named Ricardo Castillo. XXL shared a press release from the Miami police department detailing their account.
Apparently, Castillo and several officers had received a call from Mango’s Cafe, after claims that Simms was threatening employees. Upon their arrival, Simms then proceeded to stab Castillo, prompting his fellow officers to open fire. Though Castillo was sent to the intensive care unit, his current condition is confirmed to be stable. Though Simms was also brought to the hospital, he did not survive. He did not have a local arrest record.

Last night, Meechy Darko shared an emotional message on Instagram in homage to his father. “My heart is shattered,” he begins. “Never ever in my life felt pain like this before. I’m trying to stay strong and be tough for him. I’m filled with so many emotions right now. I don’t want to come on here for any type of sympathy. I want to spread this message. To Any and everyone out there dealing with Mental illness. Please get help.”
“This has been a Battle that My Family and I have been dealing with for over a decade, suffering in silence,” he continues. “I used to think there was strength in that…I love my father. So Much. Never once was ever ashamed of him despite what may have been going through mentally or what he may have thought in his head.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Meechy Darko in this difficult time.
