Lamar Jackson is one of the more exciting young quarterbacks in the NFL right now thanks to his skills at running the football whenever he has the chance. While he might not be the passer, Jackson has created some highlight-reel plays and moving forward, the Ravens will be an exciting team to watch because of him. On Thursday night, Jackson showed off what makes him so great while playing against the Green Bay Packers. With open field ahead of him, Jackson rushed for a touchdown that was eventually called back due to a flag. Jackson avoided multiple tackles and he could have gotten hurt.
The play caught the eye of Aaron Rodgers who spoke to Jackson after the game and had some advice for the budding star.
“I love watching you play, man. That was spectacular,” Rodgers said. “Have a great season. Slide a little bit.” Jackson seemed excited by the advice and replied with a subtle "I got you, baby."
After the game, Jackson talked about the play and explained how it's important for him to take advantage of those opportunities and make the defense pay.
"If I am out there in the open field, one on one, I have to make you miss," Jackson said according to ESPN. "That's just me. That's how I always played. If I get tackled by one person, I am mad. I feel like I lost that play, could have gained more yards, could have probably scored. I don't know. If I am not passing, if I do decide to run, I am trying to score a touchdown or get a first down. I am not trying to get two yards and get tackled. That's not how I play."
If you're a Ravens fan, you have to like what you see so far.
Antonio Brown Shares Tender Hug With Crying Raiders Fan: Watch
Brown is atoning for his sins from last week.
Antonio Brown is one of the most polarizing players in the league, especially when you consider what went down last week regarding his helmet grievance with the NFL. Brown ended up filing a motion against the league asking for his old helmet to be reinstated after being banned. In the end, an arbitrator ruled in favor of the league and Brown was forced to acquiesce. Now, all that is standing in the way of Brown returning to the football field is a frostbitten food that got injured during a trip inside of a cryogenic chamber.
Yesterday, Brown was on the sidelines of the Oakland Raiders’ preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals and he provided some much-needed fan service to the crowd. In footage obtained by TMZ, Brown can be seen giving his glove to a crying fan who seems eternally grateful over the gesture. From there, Brown gave the kid a hug which further endeared him amongst the Raiders faithful.
Once Brown returns from his injury, he has an opportunity to ingratiate himself within the community even more, as long as he can put up some big results on the field. Brown is one of the best receivers in the league and some highlight-reel plays would certainly go a long way in erasing all of the antics that were on full display over the last few weeks.
Jay-Z Is Reportedly Going To Be Part Owner Of An NFL Team
Jay's move to the NFL was much bigger than the entertainment part.
Jay-Z stirred the pot up quite a bit this week when Roc Nation announced their new partnership with the NFL. The move's been called hypocritical especially since he's been so supportive of the Colin Kaepernick. After the partnership between Roc Nation and the NFL was announced, Kaep's girlfriend, Nessa Nitty, Eric Reid, and Jemele Hill were among the many to call out Hov. However, it seems like Jay's involvement in the NFL is much deeper than simply Roc Nation's involvement in the entertainment and social justice sector.
Apparently, we didn't know all the details surrounding Jay's involvement in the NFL. According to TMZ, the rapper is now set to become a part-owner of an NFL team. Which one? It hasn't been revealed yet but sources claim that "it is going to happen in the near future." Jay previously had stakes in the Brooklyn Nets, which he's sold, so owning a sports team isn't foreign to him. But Hov's reason to be a part-owner aligns with why he said he agreed to partner with the NFL. It's "because he's a huge fan, already has a sports business and wants to continue to be a change agent for the NFL." Some people might have to see it to believe it.
The reason he sold his stakes in the Brooklyn Nets was that he had the Roc Nation sports agency and the NBA rules state that in order to have a sports agency, one must not have a stake in a team. The NFL seems to work on the same set of rules but a source close to the tabloid publication said that "Jay is not an NFL agent and does not take part in the operations of the NFL players in Roc Nation."
There will definitely be a lot of conversation surrounding this move if it is true. He's already faced a ton of backlash for partnering with them.
Patrick Mahomes Stuns Teammates With Insane No-Look Pass: Watch
Mahomes is a freak of nature.
Patrick Mahomes had NFL fans floored last season with his incredible play as the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. He ended up finishing the season with 50 touchdowns and was one overtime quarter away from the Super Bowl. Mahomes was also rewarded with the Most Valuable Player award which was certainly well deserved. Heading into next season, there are some lofty expectations on the Chiefs, especially with Mahomes having a full year's worth of experience under his belt.
Whether he can recreate last year's success remains to be seen, although he's certainly putting on a show at training camp as seen in the video below. In the clip, Mahomes pulls off one of his signature no-look passes and the whole thing is put into slow motion.
If Mahomes can continue to make plays like this throughout the season, there is no denying just how good the Chiefs are going to be. The AFC is wide open and the Chiefs are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. If everything goes according to plan, they will be well on their way to doing so.
Chiefs fans everywhere are probably salivating over these kinds of plays and as casual fans, we hope we get to see them all season long. If you're a fantasy owner, Mahomes should be high on your radar.
Rex Ryan References His Foot Fetish On Live TV And Gets Epic Reaction
Rex Ryan never misses an opportunity to make a joke.
New York Jets fans remember Rex Ryan as one of the most entertaining coaches and figured in team history. His antics on the sidelines were always hilarious and when it came to his press conferences, he knew how to be entertaining. Ryan has been bringing his analysis to ESPN recently and as you can imagine, his takes are as hot as the sauce on a freshly-baked pizza. Today on ESPN's Get Up!, Ryan was close to venturing into NSFW territory as he made reference to perhaps one of the most egregious sagas in his tenure as Jets head coach.
During a segment about a football player who had his toenails removed, co-host Sam Ponder expressed her disgust with feet and how the story could sicken those eating breakfast while watching the show. Of course, Ryan had to slide in with a joke, saying “Well, let’s not talk about feet,” all while raising his eyebrow. If you're not in on the joke, Ryan was outed for having a foot fetish a while back and it was a source of ridicule for the former head coach.
As you can imagine, the whole set burst into a parade of laughter, while Ponder almost walked off the set in a fit of giggles. Ryan knew his joke was hilarious and sat there with a smirk on his face as the viewers processed what they just heard.
At least Ryan can still laugh at himself after all of these years.
Jamie Foxx Reveals Inside Scoop On Ezekiel Elliott’s Cowboys Holdout
This should be good news for Cowboys fans.
Dallas Cowboys fans have been sweating recently thanks to the contract situations going down with players like Dak Prescott and more importantly, Ezekiel Elliott. As of right now, Elliott is holding out from training camp and is refusing to report there until he gets the money he wants. The issue with Zeke’s holdout is that running backs aren’t valued like they used to be and the Cowboys are worried that he could go into a steep decline after being paid by the team.
As we go deeper into the preseason, Elliott’s holdout becomes more and more concerning although team owner Jerry Jones doesn’t seem to be in too much of a rush to really do anything about it. While this is concerning for Cowboys fans, they should rest assured that things will get better soon as Jamie Foxx recently told TMZ about how a deal is going to be in place in the near future.
“I got the word, I got the underlying word,” Foxx explained. “That it’s all the way, all the deals are being worked out. Look out, baby!”
Foxx isn’t exactly a journalist although he has been spotted at their practices in the past and seems to know some people within the organization. If Foxx’s report happens to be true, then perhaps the Cowboys won’t be a mess this season after all.
Antonio Brown Denies Threatening Retirement Over Helmet Grievance
Brown wants to set the record straight.
Oakland Raiders fans were in complete disbelief when it was revealed that on top of Antonio Brown's frostbitten foot, he was also threatening retirement over a helmet grievance he filed with the NFL. Essentially, Brown wanted to play with his old helmet but it was banned by the NFL and he didn't like what they were giving him. Brown eventually lost his grievance and now has to play with whatever they give him. It seems like the Raiders star wide receiver is finally back at training camp and is just waiting on his foot to heal before he gets any playing time.
Michael Gehlken, a beat reporter for the Raiders, got to speak with Brown about the whole situation and according to the wide receiver, reports that he threatened retirement are completely false.
“I don’t know where they got that, who made that up, either. Why would I retire, man? I’ve got a beautiful career. I’m healthy. I love to play the game," Brown said. "I’m grateful to play the game”
Brown also spoke about his foot injury and whether or not they're healing properly. As he explains, everything should sort itself out soon.
"My feet are healing in the right direction. I'm just ready to be around my teammates and get to work and be with the guys," Brown stated.
Moving forward, Brown and the Raiders can focus on the upcoming season which can only be a good thing for the squad.
Former Steelers QB Becomes First Player To Sign With The XFL
XFL announces Landry Jones as the first player to sign.
Former Oklahoma Sooners star and Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Landry Jones has been announced as the first player to sign with the XFL.
The league revealed the signing on Thursday, although it remains to be seen which of the eight XFL teams he'll be playing for when the inaugural season kicks off after the Super Bowl in February. Worth noting, Jones' coach at Oklahoma, Bob Stoops, is the head coach and general manager of the XFL's Dallas-based team.
"We're excited to welcome Landry to the XFL as our first player and first quarterback," XFL Commissioner and CEO, Oliver Luck said in a statement released by the league. "He's an accomplished athlete with outstanding college credentials and pro experience, and his heart and desire to play football epitomizes the type of individual we want in the XFL."
"I'm looking forward to joining the XFL and playing the game I love," Jones said in the XFL's statement. "I can't wait to suit-up."
The 30-year old QB was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and he spent five seasons with the team as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger, though he did go 3-2 in his five starts. Jones had signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 after Blake Bortles suffered an injury, and later signed Oakland Raiders in 2019, but never got on the field for either team.
He recently worked out for the Detroit Lions prior to reaching an agreement with the XFL.
Colin Kaepernick Shows Off Throwing Strength With Eric Reid: Watch
Kaepernick is still looking for an NFL opportunity.
Ever since Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the National Anthem back in 2016, it seemed as though the NFL had it out for him. Despite leading the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance and being a serviceable quarterback, Kap was unable to find work in the league and it has led to claims that he was blackballed. Kap's biggest supporter has been former teammate Eric Reid who now plays on the Carolina Panthers. Reid called out Jay Z recently for a deal he made with the NFL that didn't involve Kaepernick's input.
Today, Kaepernick took to Twitter with an epic workout video of him launching passes to Reid down the field. The video seems pretty recent, and Kap made sure to thank Reid for his support over the years.
"You never turned your back on me or the people, even when the nfl tried to silence your voice & the movement. You’ve never flinched or wavered. I love you Brother! Let’s get it!" Kap wrote.
Kaepernick looks incredibly in shape in the video and his arm strength appears to have not missed a single beat. There's probably a team out there who could use his services right now, although it remains to be seen if anyone will go out on a limb and take the chance.
Would you want to see Kap on your team next season?
Colin Kaepernick’s GF Puts Jay-Z & NFL On Blast Over New Partnership
Nessa is upset by the new deal that’s been put in place.
There has been quite a bit of outrage over Jay Z’s recent entertainment and social justice partnership with the NFL that curiously, didn’t involve Colin Kaepernick. Eric Reid of the Carolina Panthers recently had some harsh words about the whole ordeal and now, it’s Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab who is sounding off about it on Instagram. In a lengthy post to her page this afternoon, Diab put the league and Jay Z on blast for ignoring Kaepernick in their deal, even though he was the first to fight for social justice within the organization.
“We will never turn our backs on @kaepernick7 because your idols decided to work with the same organization that is actively keeping Colin unemployed all because he peacefully protested against social injustice in black and brown communities, specifically police brutality,” Diab wrote “So really, how can Jay-Z and the NFL utter social justice in their partnership while keeping Colin unemployed because of his social justice work?”
Diab seems extremely upset by the entire situation and went on to shout out all of Kap’s supporters by saying “thank you all so much for showing Colin so much support and love. I know for myself, I can’t thank y’all enough for loving my family.”
Earlier today, Kaepernick posted a workout video to Twitter which shows how he still has a pretty good arm for a guy that hasn’t played in so long.
It will be interesting to see how this partnership plays out throughout the season.
