Over the last few years, the Houston Rockets have been one of those teams who are always competing for a title but never seem to get over the hump and make it to the NBA Finals. This offseason, general manager Daryl Morey made some strides to fix that as he traded Chris Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Russell Westbrook. Westbrook is now being reunited with James Harden, a player he had a ton of chemistry with on the Thunder earlier this decade.
During a recent appearance on the Selfmade podcast, Morey spoke about his team and how he believes Harden is quite possibly the best scorer to ever play the game. He even said he's better than Michael Jordan, which will certainly get a strong reaction from all of the basketball purists out there.
"It's just factual that James Harden is a better scorer than Michael Jordan," Morey said. "You give James Harden the ball and before you're giving up the ball how many points do you generate, which is how you should measure offense, James Harden is by far #1 in NBA history."
Morey is also extremely confident after the Westbrook trade, saying teams composed like his own usually go on to win championships.
"We have two recent MVPs, that's happened only four times in NBA history where two MVPs are on the same team in a 3-year span," Morey explained. "Every time that team has gone on to win the title. We'll see. We'll see if it works out for us."
What do you think of Morey's comments? Is he right or is calling Harden a better scorer than Jordan blasphemous?
Steve Kerr Reacts With Devastation To DeMarcus Cousins ACL Injury
NBA players have been quite sad about the news.
DeMarcus Cousins was given a chance to prove himself this upcoming season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The star player was given a one-year deal and if he could escape the season without injuries, he would have been in prime position for a huge contract. Unfortunately, it was announced yesterday that Cousins had suffered an ACL injury and that he would have to miss the vast majority of next season. It's a horrible turn of events for a player that many fans were rooting for this upcoming season, especially when you consider how many injuries he's suffered over the years.
NBA players rushed to support Cousins, while his former coach in Golden State, Steve Kerr, was asked about the whole ordeal. As you can imagine, Kerr was upset by the news and had some well wishes for his former player.
“I’m devastated for DeMarcus," Kerr said. "It’s been a couple of years of hell. I was really hoping this season would be a chance to get healthy. We’re all crushed for him.”
Cousins will have to receive surgery on his ACL and as of right now, there is no confirmed timeline for his recovery and return. For now, Cousins will have to make sure he gets his rest and continue to persevere as the season progresses. Hopefully the Lakers star can turn it around and return for a playoff run.
DeMarcus Cousins’ ACL Injury Sparks Sad Reaction From NBA Players
Cousins has had a rough last few years.
Earlier today, it was revealed that DeMarcus Cousins had been diagnosed with a torn ACL after injuring his knee during a training session in Las Vegas on Monday. It's an unfortunate series of events for the Los Angeles Lakers star as just weeks earlier, he had talked about how he wanted to play 82 games this season. The Lakers took a waiver on Cousins hoping he could get back to his production from before his Achilles injury a couple of years ago. Now, it looks like they will have to be without him for the majority of the season, which will certainly set them back a bit.
Cousins' situation is a cautionary tale in how sometimes, your NBA career isn't guaranteed. When Cousins was going through his Achilles issues in New Orleans, he was offered a contract but because it wasn't the max, he ended up walking away and signed a short term deal with the Golden State Warriors instead. During the playoffs, Cousins hurt his quad but was able to come back in time for the Finals. This season in Los Angeles was supposed to be his way of proving to the league that he deserves max money but with his injury woes, it doesn't look like that will happen.
Following the news, Cousins' peers took to Twitter to show support for the big man and even offered some prayers in the process.
Terry Rozier Expresses Frustration With Celtics And How They Handled Him
Rozier recently signed with the Charlotte Hornets.
Terry Rozier let his feelings be known at the end of the season when it came to the Boston Celtics and everything that went down this season. Rozier was the backup point guard behind Kyrie Irving and it was clear that there were some chemistry issues. Ever since his public comments, Rozier moved on and signed with the Charlotte Hornets, where he is expected to become the starting point guard. In a new interview with Jonathan Abrams of Bleacher Report, Rozier spoke about why he was frustrated in Boston and how he wishes things had gone down differently.
“Not liking how me being positioned and me being used as a person, player and I just feel like things could have been done better, could’ve been handled better on Boston’s end and on my end,” Rozier said. “I feel like things could’ve been a lot better, and it wasn’t.”

The point guard also got to talk about being the number one guy during the team’s playoff run in 2018, when they were one win away from making it to the Finals. As Rozier explained, being able to lead like that was a moment he persevered for.
“Didn’t try to get too high, then let the stuff get to me,” Rozier said. “Didn’t try to get too low, when things weren’t going my way. Just try to stay right there in the moment, and it worked out for me. Then a lot of people that wasn’t on the Terry Rozier train, talking all that B.S., hop on. That’s just how I go.”
It will be interesting to see how Hozier handles the starting duties in Charlotte as the team looks to rebuild after the departure of Kemba Walker.
Knicks Rookie RJ Barrett Finally Has His NBA 2K20 Rating Unveiled
Barrett scored a few points lower than his Duke teammate Zion Williamson.
If you're an NBA player, there is only one thing that matters more than winning an NBA Championship and securing your spot amongst the league's best. Everyone knows that your NBA 2K rating is what will make or break your career, especially if you're a rookie. Of course, I'm being sarcastic but there is something to say about the stock that is put into these ratings by the fans and the players alike. Over the past few weeks, 2K Games has been slowly but surely revealing the ratings for all of the players in the league and today, it was Knicks rookie RJ Barrett's turn to be rated.
Just a couple of weeks ago, his Duke Blue Devils teammate, Zion Williamson, received a rating of 81. Zion was the first overall pick in the draft, while Barrett was the third pick so it only makes sense that RJ scored a few points lower. In the end, Barrett was given an overall rating of 78 which is still pretty good for an unproven rookie.
Barrett will be a bright spot on a Knicks team that has had to suffer from terrible results on the court for a better part of a decade. Fans will be excited to see Barrett on the court of Madison Square Garden once the season starts in October.
Whether or not he can live up to the hype still remains to be seen.
Paul George Dons Clippers Gear Alongside Gorgeous Model Girlfriend
George is living the good life right now.
Paul George was believed to be securely on the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer but his plans quickly changed when he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Now, Geroge has been teamed up with Kawhi Leonard which makes the Clippers automatic contenders to win a championship this season and their fanbase couldn’t be happier. George knows better than anyone how much a championship can mean for your legacy and the move to Los Angeles will certainly help with that pursuit.
According to TMZ, George has been vacationing in Greece with his baby mama, Daniela Rajic, who he has been with for multiple years and has two kids with. In some posts on Instagram, George can be seen wearing Clippers swim trunks. Meanwhile, Rajic is looking gorgeous in a nude-colored bathing suit that we’re sure George appreciated.
The fact that George is already wearing his Clippers gear bodes well for fans of the team who have been waiting for a championship since the team’s inception. There hasn’t been much to cheer about over the years as the Clippers have never even made it to the Western Conference Finals. The additions of George and Leonard will surely have the ability to change this.
Going into next season, it looks like George is committed and motivated to going deeper in the playoffs than he or the Clippers have ever gone before.
Carmelo Anthony Nets Workouts Will Reportedly Not Lead To Contract
Melo’s workouts are nothing to read into.
Carmelo Anthony has been one of the biggest stories of the NBA offseason even though he hasn’t played any basketball in close to a year. Anthony was recently on First Take where he talked about his frustrations when it comes to not having a contract to play in the NBA next season. Melo desperately wants to be back in the league so he can prove to people that he is still the real deal and can play high-level ball with the rest of them. Yesterday, we reported on how Melo was working out with Brooklyn Nets players in Los Angeles and even did a couple of scrimmages.
Despite this news, it appears as though he won’t be signing with the Nets, according to Brian Lewis of The New York Post. In his article, Lewis talks about how Melo was just there to play amongst friends and that it doesn’t mean anything moving forward.

“But sources tell The Post that’s all it is, pick-up games with friends, and not a sign that Anthony is Brooklyn-bound.
“Nothing to it,’ a source close to Anthony told The Post. “There’s several guys (playing) that aren’t Nets, but friends and other NBA players.””
With this in mind, it’s clear that Anthony will have to continue to search for his new team. With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Melo would have made the Nets even more dynamic, although that appears to be a pipe dream at this point.
DeMarcus Cousins To Be Tested For Possible Knee Injury: Report
This doesn't bode well for the Lakers this season.
DeMarcus Cousins has had his fair share of injury problems throughout his career, including a devastating Achilles injury that spilled into last season with the Golden State Warriors. From there, Boogie injured his quad in the playoffs and had to miss numerous games until he was able to return for the Finals. Cousins struggled to find a contract during the offseason but was eventually rewarded by the Los Angeles Lakers, with a one-year deal.
Lakers fans have been excited to see how Cousins will play with the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, especially since he and AD had great chemistry while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. It looks like Cousins might be experiencing a bit of set back though, as Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers star suffered a knee injury during a recent training session. In fact, Cousins will have to undergo tests to see just how bad it is.
While this is some cause for concern, fans shouldn't hit the panic button just yet as it's unclear what the severity of the injury is. Cousins has had his fair share of injury woes in the past but that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be out long term.
Be sure to stay tuned for updates on Cousins condition once his tests have been completed.
Lonzo Ball & LaVar Ball Argue Over The Future Of Big Baller Brand: Watch
It looks like the two have some strong differences of opinion.
Earlier this year, it appeared as though the Big Baller Brand was in question after co-founder Alan Foster was accused of stealing over $1 million from Lonzo Ball. As you can imagine, LaVar Ball tried to salvage the situation and went on a mission to convince people that the brand was as strong as ever. Of course, that’s not exactly true when you consider how the brand recently had a huge liquidation sale at a local gym. The Big Baller Brand is in shambles right now and no one understands that more than Lonzo.
In a recent trailer for the fifth season of the Ball In The Family, LaVar and Lonzo can be seen butting heads over the future of the brand. As you can tell, Lonzo is convinced that it’s all over for the Big Baller Brand, while LaVar wants to desperately hold onto his imprint.
“Lonzo: The brand is demolished right now.
LaVar: That’s how you feel, the brand is demolished.
Lonzo: That’s how everybody feels.
LaVar: Who’s everybody?
Lonzo: The world.
LaVar: The brand is not demolished.
Lonzo: You got it, man.”
It will be interesting to see how this storyline plays out on their reality show as we all know that LaVar can be stubborn about these kinds of things. Moving forward, the future of BBB will be one of the more entertaining storylines of the NBA season, especially if the Ball family patriarch can find a way to turn it around.
Team USA Basketball Loses To A Squad Full Of G-League Players: Watch
This doesn't bode well for the team moving forward.
While it may not be on everyone's radar, there is no denying that the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be a huge event for the sport. It's going down in just a few weeks from now and Team USA is preparing for what will be a difficult tournament as they've had numerous top tier players dropout. For now, Kemba Walker is the team's best player and he is being supported by some of the NBA's young guns. In order to prepare for the tournament, the team played against the USA Basketball Select Team which was mainly composed of G-League players.
Through a shocking turn of events, the G-League-heavy roster actually beat Team USA by a score of 36-17. The Select Team was able to completely overpower head coach Gregg Popovich's squad and it's clear that some changes need to be made.
Fans were already skeptical about Team USA heading into the FIBA tournament as the vast majority of the league's best players dropped out. This is because they wanted to dedicate their summer to getting healthy and working out with their NBA teams, as opposed to devoting time and energy to the international squad.
It's clear that playing for your country has lost a bit of its meaning over the past few years and Team USA is suffering for it. This recent performance may be a cause for concern but there is still time to turn it around before the tournament starts next month.
Needless to say, this team will be an interesting case study moving forward.
