Today is a huge day for gamers around the world. Sony is set to reveal the PlayStation 5 (PS5) for the first time during a major event this afternoon. As the anticipation builds, some people thought they uncovered the price of the gaming console on Amazon UK.
For a brief moment, the PS5 was listed on Amazon UK for $599.99. However, there appears to have been an internal mistake, forcing Amazon to make a statement.
"This was an error," says an Amazon spokesperson to IGN. This specific pricing mistake has been explained as "a dummy product with a dummy price."
The console was listed in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB models and a reported 118 listings were also available for games. Publishers like Konami, Bethesda, and Rockstar all had listings for unnamed games priced at a $10 increase from their usual retail prices.
The price of the PS5 has been rumored for a minute, with some reports that it carries a manufacturing price of $450. If we're lucky, we'll get ahold of all the details later today as the event is set to begin soon.
Will you be tuning in to hear all the announcements that Sony has in store for us today or are you sticking with another console?
PlayStation 5’s Rumored Launch Price Revealed
A new report indicates the PlayStation 5’s potential launch price, as well as predicting a scarcity at launch.
Though the future of gaming appears more promising than ever, the once-projected holiday season launch for Sony’s PlayStation 5 may be a rocky one, to say the least. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the initial production run of the PS5 will lead to a “limited” quantity within the console’s first year, a decision intimately connected to the projected price. According to their sources, Sony intends on producing between five and six million consoles within the first fiscal year of the PS5’s launch cycle, which concludes in March of 2021.

Apparently, Sony believes that its anticipated price ranging between $499 and $549 will ultimately play a role in slowing down the initial demand, which in turn allows them to allocate production resources accordingly. It should be noted that the Coronavirus pandemic has yet to have an impact on the actual production of the console, though it did through a wrench in some of Sony’s promotional plans. On top of that, production on certain components of the console has been impacted as well, which could go on to have an impact on the PS5’s final price.
Though all signs still point to a Holiday 2020 release window, fans might consider pre-ordering the console as soon as it becomes available. Bloomberg’s report warns that it might be slightly difficult to grab one of the consoles around the launch period, so anybody fiending to jump into the next generation should move accordingly. In the meantime, look for the PlayStation 5 to make a splash when it does release — even if it does cost up to $549.
Uber Testing Feature In California That Would Allow Drivers To Set Own Ride Prices
Uber continues to add new features that give their drivers more choice.
As of late, Uber has been pushing for its drivers to be labeled as independant contractors in California, and their latest feature serves to drive that point home. The ride sharing app is currently testing out a new feature in the West Coast state that gives drivers the ability to choose their own ride prices instead of charging the default price. This feature allows drivers to hike up individual fares in 10% increments, and the prices are capped five times higher than what Uber’s set price would normally be for the ride. Currently, only drivers making trips to and from the Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, and Sacramento airports have access to this feature; however, the feature could expand to the greater Los Angeles and San Francisco areas if the trial run is successful.

As expected, the drivers who set lower prices for a ride would be most customers first choice, while drivers with higher prices will get the bulk of their customers during periods of high demand. Uber is also testing another feature in California, that would allow passengers to assign themselves “favourite drivers” to schedule rides with. The feature will also give passengers the opportunity to give drivers vital information about each trip upfront before accepting the ride.
By offering increasing opportunities for drivers in California to have more freedom, Uber is continuing their attempts to prove that their drivers are independant contractors, in order to save millions of dollars by not providing benefits to its drivers has lead to an increasing. This increasing urgency to give their drivers more independence comes in the wake of California’s recently enacted law that takes issue with Uber’s stance.
