Rex Ryan hasn't been a very popular man recently thanks to his negative comments on ESPN. Recently, Ryan got into some trouble for the way he spoke about Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Amari Cooper. Now, Ryan is getting some harsh words from the likes of Geno Smith, who was his quarterback on the New York Jets.
In a recent ESPN segment, Ryan spoke about Bill Belichick's success with the New England Patriots and roasted the legendary coach saying he would never have gotten it done with a QB like Smith. Smith saw these comments and immediately took to Twitter where he put his former bench boss on blast.
“My momma never liked dude he been a snake. . and y’all glorify it. . should’ve got fired after yr1,” Smith said. ”Truth is we won 8 games after ESPN had us winning two and he got his job back. .somehow I’m caught up in a feud and I’m the scapegoat. . Same guy that drafted me." Smith continued by saying “I could easily go on and on about the bs I see but truthfully I’m so happy I don’t even bother. God put me in this position where even my enemies gotta mention my name. so I just sit back and watch the show!"
Ryan has been making a lot of enemies as of late and it seems like even his former players can be subjected to the slander. We wonder who he will go after next.
Rex Ryan Quickly Backtracks On Bizarre Amari Cooper Rant
Rex Ryant went on ESPN this morning and called Amari Cooper a "turd."
Rex Ryan got himself into quite a bit of trouble this morning as he went on ESPN's Get Up! and went on a scathing rant towards Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper. In fact, Ryan went so far as to call Cooper a "turd" which was pretty out of bounds.
“To me, this is the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League,” Ryan said. “He doesn’t show up on the road … when he’s against the top corners, that guy disappears…I wouldn’t have paid that turd.”
After coming to his senses, Ryan went back on ESPN and offered an apology for his actions. As he explains, he wasn't in the right mind to use such language with Cooper.
"I can't believe I said that. Used that word. Obviously, it was a poor choice by me to say what I said about Amari," Ryan said. "What I added at the end of that. I want to apologize to Amari again and hope he accepts my apology."
It remains to be seen whether or not Cooper saw the rant although we can't imagine he will be extremely forgiving when he does hear about it. After all, Ryan was pretty harsh and it's clear what he thinks of the wide receiver, regardless of the use of the word, "turd."
Rex Ryan Viciously Roasts Amari Cooper, Calls Him A "Turd"
Rex Ryan had some very harsh words for Amari Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys.
Rex Ryan has been known for being a bit of a hot take artist ever since his foray into sports analysis. The former head coach was always an outspoken man back in his heyday and that still continues, even in 2020. ESPN's Get Up! is where he spends most of his time and on Friday morning, he came through with some slander for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Amari Cooper.
Cooper recently signed a massive deal with the Cowboys worth $100 million over five seasons. Ryan trashed the deal saying the money they gave Cooper should be given to quarterback Dak Prescott. Ryan also went on to say that Cooper has been known to disappear and that he doesn't love football. He even went as so far as to hit with a personal insult, calling him a "turd."
“To me, this is the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League,” Ryan said. “He doesn’t show up on the road … when he’s against the top corners, that guy disappears…I wouldn’t have paid that turd.”
It's hard to say why Ryant felt the need to go so hard on Cooper although it's clear there is some kind of tension there. Cooper has been seen by many as a great teammate who you can rely on to make big plays. If you're a Cowboys fan, this rant certainly came out of left field.
Baker Mayfield Squashes Beef With Rex Ryan, Plans To Stop Replying To Critics
Mayfield is done responding to haters.
Baker Mayfield appeared on ESPN's Get Up on Friday morning with former NFL head coach Rex Ryan to discuss his handling of critics and squash his beef with Ryan.
"It comes back on ... doing my job the best I can, not worrying about the outside stuff, not replying to you. Just doing my job and doing what really matters, being a quarterback," he said.
Mayfield's relationship with critics throughout the season has been tumultuous. Multiple times throughout the season he reacted poorly to negative feedback. In response to Ryan calling him "overrated" after week 3, Mayfield responded, "If you don't wear orange and brown, you don't matter, and Rex Ryan doesn't have any colors right now for a reason."
Mayfield and the Browns struggled throughout the year, finishing with a 6-10 record, something Mayfield describes as a "humbling experience." He threw for 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions, which ranks last in touchdown to interception ratio.
"Let's just be honest, I put my foot in my mouth a lot this past year," Mayfield said. "I'm going to internalize that."
Mayfield went on to explain that the focus needs to shift to winning games rather than arguing with the media: "That's what the focus needs to be about, what can I do to help this team win. ... What can I do to make our franchise better, head in the right direction, do the things of why I was picked in that spot [No. 1 overall] and make it happen."
