As more celebrities step forward with vocal support of the Black Lives Matter movement, some non-black allies are finding themselves entangled in controversy. Famed model and actress Emily Ratajkowski has been quite vocal about her support of BLM in recent days, and she wrote on Instagram that with everything going on, she felt "so useless." BET’s style director Danielle Prescod gave her a bit of advice and it had to do with Emily Ratajkowski's husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard.

“I actually have an idea. You could start by talking to your husband, a white man, who has used the n-word repeatedly in my presence. So much so that another black friend was so disgusted she left. Another black woman had the same exact experience," Prescod wrote. "You probably have never seen this behavior. I would like you to address the issues in your home and then you can help us out here. I would like you to ask him what he can do differently … I mean this with the utmost sincerity. It was hurtful and abusive."
Bear-McClard took to Twitter to acknowledge the allegations against him and to issue an apology to anyone he's offended. The Uncut Gems producer stated, "I used a word casually like it was mine to use. It’s not, it never was, and never will be. In the past few years I’ve learned a lot about my privilege as a man and as a white person and about the history of racism in this country. Owning our misteps is a crucial part of changing the way the world operates. I’m embarrassed and ashamed and I sincerely apologize to everyone who I may have hurt.”
Later, Prescod told Page Six that it wasn't her intention to publicly shame Emily Ratajkowski or her husband, but if non-black allies are going to address their followers on how to end racism or racist behavior, they should first focus on what's going on inside of their own homes.
Cam’ron Calls Out Safdie Brothers Over "Uncut Gems" Casting
Though he maintains it's all good, Cam'ron claims he felt used by The Safdie Bros during "Uncut Gems" casting.
The Safdie Brother's 2019 film Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as a jeweler over his head, has become a fan-favorite despite its anxiety-inducing narrative. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like everything went rosy for all parties during the pre-production stages. Today, Cam'ron has taken to Instagram to air out a few grievances he had with the Safdie Brothers, which emerged as a result of Complex's deep dive on jewelers Izzy and Joseph Aranbayev of Anne & Co -- the main source for all the film's jewelry.

After Izzy Aranbayev details how he, his brother, and their good friend Cam'ron were originally supposed to appear in the movie (they did not), Cam' offered up his take on the way things played out. Unfortunately, it seems as if he felt used by Josh Safdie, who capitalized on Cam's existing relationship with Anne & Co.
"[Josh Safdie] used me to get to you and the family. Then tried to give me a sucker ass role," writes Cam. "When they told me it was supposed to be me and @jonahhill starring in it with @adamsandler (uncut Jems) then didn’t even give me a thank you in the credits. [Josh Safdie] is still my guy.. but this needed to be said. And talk about my consultant fee lol.. Love and congrats to all."
While the callout is what it is, it's clear that Killa isn't harboring any hard feelings over the way things played out. To be fair, it would have been nice to see him grace the silver screen once again. Who knows -- perhaps we'll see Cam pop up in the next Safdie Brothers flick, an olive branch of sorts.
The Weeknd Premieres New Song "Scared To Live" On "SNL"
The Weeknd performed his new song, “Scared To Live” on “Saturday Night Live,” with composer of the “Uncut Gems” soundtrack, Oneohtrix Point Never.
The Weeknd gave Saturday Night Live viewers a taste of some new music when he performed his never-before-heard song, “Scared To Live,” alongside composer Oneohtrix Point Never. After performing his hit, “Blinding Lights,” off his highly anticipated upcoming album, After Hours, dropping March 20th, The Weeknd took the stage at Studio 8H in his signature red outfit once again to debut a new song.
“Scared To Live” falls right in line with the revamped sound of The Weeknd’s current musical era. The track actually samples the original score from the the Safdie Brothers’ critically acclaimed film, Uncut Gems, which The Weeknd himself starred in. The whole soundtrack for the film was composed by the highly talented musician Daniel Lopatin, better known by his recording alias Oneohtrix Point Never, who joined The Weeknd onstage for his performance. The Weeknd also interpolated Elton John’s “Your Song” on “Scared To Live,” which will presumably be featured on After Hours as well.
On Wednesday, The Weeknd premiered a short film for the album’s title track. After dropping the album, he’ll be hitting the road for the After Hours tour, kicking off in Vancouver on June 11th.
Lakeith Stanfield Says "Atlanta" Is His Favorite Workplace
Lakeith Stanfield admitted that “Atlanta” is his favorite gig to date.
While Lakeith Stanfield has slowly become an on-screen go-to guy in recent years, the 28-year-old San Bernardino-bred actor has revealed that Atlanta is his all-time favorite work environment. The actor/aspiring musician‘s Hollywood takeover has been one of the most awe-inspiring events to witness as he starred alongside Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems (2019), and had pivotal roles in films like Knives Out (2019), Get Out (2017), and more. Now, in promotion of his latest project, The Photograph (2020), starring himself and Issa Rae, he stopped by Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning to discuss a wide array of topics including his favorite sets he’s worked on thus far in his blossoming career.
Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez berated the upcoming movie star with questions in regards to his rise to prominence on the silver screen, his issues with media accountability, starring in the upcoming Fred Hampton film, meeting the infamous Teddy Perkins, Donald Glover’s impact on the culture, and more. Around the 6:05 mark of the interview, the Ebro clique got introspective with the multifaceted actor asking him about his thoughts on the musician turned scriptwriter, Donald Glover, stating:
“I think there are many, many, many people who are genius but some people that are allowed to tap into it or know how to tap into it, and some people who don’t. And some people allow themselves the space to tap into it. He’s just tapped into it. And once you tap into it, you gotta stay the course and realize that your genius is going to cause things to shake up and people ain’t gonna understand you. But you just gotta keep walking the line and that’s what he’s done… his genius ain’t no surprise to me.”
At the 7-minute mark, Lakeith revealed that Atlanta was his favorite work environment to date exclaiming:
“Atlanta‘s my favorite set to work on. Everyone there feels like family. It’s a bit of a coveted situation where we are all sort of in one thought, walking together, and we don’t really let outside things come in and break up and shake up what we’re doing. And we believe in it and we feel like we’re doing something new and trailblazing. So, I love being there. It’s a gift and an honor for me.”
With Lakeith Stanfield providing the masses with its latest blockbuster black love film in The Photograph, in theaters tomorrow on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), the possibilities are endless for the well-rounded thespian. Who knows, he could become DC Universe’s newest arch-nemesis. Check out Lakeith Stanfield’s full interview on the Ebro in the Morning show in the video provided below.
Adam Sandler Jokes About Oscars Snub In Spirit Awards Acceptance Speech
Adam Sandler took home the award for Best Actor.
With the prestigious Academy Awards set to air tonight, some may forget about the more humble Film Independent Spirit Awards that took place on Saturday (Feb. 8). As Aubrey Plaza said in her opening monologue while serving as host of the Spirit Awards, it’s “the second most important award show of the entire weekend.” While the Spirit Awards may not be the most talked-about, it often gets things right where Oscars get them wrong. One of the biggest disappointments of the 2020 Oscars – ahead of the actual ceremony at least – was that Adam Sandler did not receive a Best Actor nomination for his role of Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems. Well, we can celebrate the fact that the Spirit Awards recognized his performance and even awarded him for it.
During his acceptance speech for the Best Male Lead prize, Sandler used a goofy accent, as he tends do, while joking about his Oscars snub. He equated winning a Spirit Award rather than an Oscar to winning Best Personality in a high school yearbook rather than Best Looking. However, he still showed appreciation for the honour he received. “Then all those feather-haired douchebag motherfuckers get their Oscars tomorrow night,” Sandler said. “Their handsome good looks will fade in time, while our independent personalities will shine on forever.” Later in his speech, he breaks from his accent to earnestly express his gratitude for the Safdie Brothers – the directors of Uncut Gems – whose appearances he compares to those of “homeless rabbis”.
Adam Sandler Inks Deal With Netflix For Four New Movies
Expect to see a lot more of Sandler on Netflix.
Adam Sandler has signed an exclusive deal with Netflix to produce and star in four more new films for the streaming behemoth, according to The Verge.
“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him,” says Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, in a statement. “They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.”
Sandler has already starred in a number of films on Netflix including The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, and Murder Mystery. He has also released his stand-up special, Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh, on the site.
Netflix reports that viewers have logged over two billion hours watching Sandler content on the site since 2015.
Sandler is fresh off one of the best performances of his career in A24's Uncut Gems. The Safdie brother's directed film will also be coming to Netflix in May of this year.
In other Netflix news, the final episodes of Bojack Horseman released on Friday.
Lakeith Stanflied On Playing The Joker: "That’d Be Beautiful"
Could Lakeith Stanfield pull off The Joker?
Lakeith Stanfield has blossomed into one of Hollywood’s premier and most sought-after talents over the past half-decade. His lead performance in the “Teddy Perkins” episode of Atlanta was an unforgettable experience and he proved he has the ability to carry an entire film with his performance in Sorry To Bother You (2018). Now, with some major film credits under his belt in the form of Uncut Gems, The Knives Out, and The Photograph, the actor/rapper believes that he has the acting chops to embody Batman’s archnemesis, The Joker.

During a recent sit down with late-night television legend, Jimmy Kimmel, in promotion of his upcoming film, The Photograph, starring Issa Rae, Lakeith Stanfield spoke on his experience of ditching acting school for modeling school, his experience working with Adam Sandler and Kevin Garnett on their film Uncut Gems, love, and more. However, things got really interesting when he revealed that we would be interested in playing his own version of the Joker after praising Joaquin Phoenix‘s performance in, Joker (2019).
When asked about showing up to the premiere of Joker dressed as the DC Comic villain, the Atlanta actor had this to say:
“I just like dressing up and I also love the Joker, so there you go. You got both things.”
Kimmel then asked if Stanfield would be up for the challenge to play the popular villain stating:
“I’d love to play the Joker. That’d be beautiful.” Stanfield continued revealing he makes his home movies proclaiming, “That makes me go ‘Wait till they see me do it.’ Also, I make my own Joker movies at home with my own personal camera. All you gotta do is dress up and make your own. Why not? I still had the makeup on so I was like, ‘Let me just keep going with it.'”
As a creative introvert, Lakeith Stanfield is one of the greatest runs in recent entertainment history. Check out Lakeith’s interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! below and check out The Photograph starring Lakeith Stanfield and Issa Rae in theaters this Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
Conan O’Brien Roasts Adam Sandler While Presenting Best Actor Award
Sandler was honored by the Movies For Grownups Awards for his performance in “Uncut Gems”.
Adam Sandler may have been snubbed by the Oscars for his performance in the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut Gems, but the Movies For Grownups Awards paid him great respect. If you’re not familiar with the Movies For Grownups Awards, i’ll forgive you. It’s not the biggest award show in the entertainment industry, but it’s important nonetheless. The AARP-hosted ceremony recognizes the work of actors and filmmakers ages 50 and over and how this work communicates with elderly audiences. Furthermore, the proceeds from the event benefit the AARP Foundation, which is committed to building and sustaining communities among seniors across America.
The 19th annual Movies For Grownups Awards took place on January 11th and Adam Sandler was honored as Best Actor for his role in Uncut Gems. Conan O’Brien presented this award and, as you could guess, hilarity ensued. Not longer after O’Brien started introducing the award, Sandler rose and started making his way to the stage. The television host was baffled by Sandler’s premature move and he didn’t hesitate to roast him on the spot for it.

“You don’t come up yet, what’s wrong with you?” O’Brien exlaimed. “How long have you been in show business? That was sad!” Sandler shouted that he got up because O’Brien paused, but this explanation didn’t save him from his public shaming. “I hesitated to take a pause! In comedy you take pauses! You were like a chimp that saw a banana. You came running. What the hell was that?! We get to you!”
O’Brien then goes on to joke that Sandler’s role of “a charismatic gambling addicted jeweler” in Uncut Gems could be considered as a portrayal of Sandler’s true self. Watch it all unfold below.
"Uncut Gems" Is Officially Coming To Netflix In January
Netflix subscribers eatin’.
Adam Sandler is an enigma. True, he never lies nor acts dishonestly, but he remains an enigma all the same. For every Punch Drunk Love is a Jack And Jill. For every Reign Over Me there’s a That’s My Boy. His latest cinematic turn in the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut Gems had many going so far as to predict Oscar recognition. Alas, that day never came, and Sandler was left reflecting on the positives of the snub.

In truth, the film’s critical success is a major win for those involved, despite it undergoing a relatively small-scale theatrical release. And it’s only going to get more recognition, as the A24-backed film is officially coming to Netflix. According to a report from Hypebeast, who caught a since-deleted tweet from the streaming giant, Uncut Gems will be joining international Netflix on January 31, with a U.S. release slated for the mysterious “soon.”
The newsis actually rather curious, given that the prestigious A24 has an exclusive streaming deal with Amazon Prime. While it’s unclear how this deal came to be arranged, the news certainly bodes well for those Netflix subscribers who missed the initial run, as well as those looking for a rewatch. Stay tuned for more news on Uncut Gems.
Adam Sandler Finds Positives After "Uncut Gems" Oscar Snub
Adam Sandler, that eternal optimist.
After his frantic turn in The Safdie Brother's Uncut Gems, many began championing Adam Sandler as a surefire Oscar favorite. Despite the fact that the Safdie's thriller checks off few of the Academy's boxes, the hope they'd see value in his against-type performance burned until the bitter end. Upon the revelation of 2020's full list of Academy Award nominees, Sandler's name, or the Safdie Brothers for that matter, was nowhere to be seen.
Kevin Winter/Getty Images
Though not quite calling it a "snub," Sandler took to Twitter to make light of any potential disappointment. "Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy," he begins, starting with the bad news like any sane person should. "Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits. Congrats to all my friends who got nominated, especially Mama." In this context, Mama is a reference Kathy Bates, who secured herself a nomination for her performance in Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewell.
Sandler previously worked with Kathy Bates in 1999 comedy The Waterboy, and it's clear he's been a fan ever since. And while Uncut Gems failed to move the Academy, at least we can take solace in the fact that Adam Sandler's wardrobe has returned to status quo.
